Ford Sierra RS500
The Ford Sierra RS500, announced in July 1987 and homologated in August 1987 for Group A Touring Car racing, had a production run limited to just 500 vehicles, all modified by Tickford. Available exclusively in right-hand drive, the RS500 came in three colors: 392 in Black, 52 in White (plus 4 Ford prototypes), and 52 in Moonstone Blue. They were produced at a rate of 15 cars per day. All cars were converted at Tickford’s Bedworth facility.
Distinctive RS500 badges adorned the rear tailgate and front wings, and it featured a redesigned front bumper and spoiler for improved cooling and airflow. The bonnet louver air vents differed from those on the standard Cosworth, and the rear tailgate had both a lower spoiler and the signature upper whale tail.
Powering the RS500 was a 1993cc, 16-valve, 4-cylinder, twin-cam Cosworth YBD engine with a water-cooled Garrett AiResearch T04 turbo. This setup produced 224 bhp at 6000 rpm and 206 lb/ft of torque at 4500 rpm, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 154 mph. The RS500 was priced at £19,950, compared to £15,950 for the standard Cosworth.
