Rover 820 Turbo
The Rover 820T was a collaboration with Tickford, which handled the engine technology and body kit. The production was limited to no more than
565 units, with some estimates suggesting even fewer. Of these, 250 were exported. It’s believed that around 20 remain today, with many lost having their engines transplanted into other vehicles.
The 820T featured an M Series engine with special pistons, longer con rods, and a Garrett T25 Intercooled Turbo, developing 180PS, controlled by a “Tickford” produced ECU under the seat. It was capped at 180PS to avoid outshining the 827, which had 177PS. The car also had larger brakes and a special half-leather interior called “Lightning,” along with the traditional Tickford body kit and 16in Roversport wheels.
Tickford was contracted for this project for their expertise and production facility as
Rover’s mainstream engineering department couldn’t meet the Sales and Marketing deadlines.
